How to prevent facebook account from being hacked

How to prevent facebook account from being
hacked!
Facebook(Formerly called “The facebook) is the
world’s biggest and most popular social
networking site. It allows you to connect with
your friends, family, co-workers, relatives and
even to other people across the world.
Facebook has become so popular since the last
semi-decade that it has emerged as a platform
where people share their feelings, upload their
personal and social photos and talk private
things. In short, every individual’s facebook
account contains immense private information
about him so it is the prime target of hackers,
enemies and even so-called ‘friends’ and they
try to hack your account to misuse your
information, to spread false news, to upload
vulgar pictures on your behalf and to harass
others pretending to be you.
Although facebook has tried to keep itself as
safe as possible for all the users, yet there are
a few loopholes in its security that it has still to
tackle with. Neglecting those technical
loopholes, you can still try to keep your account
safe from your own side. The following points
are those simple tips which answer to the
question, how to prevent facebook account
from being hacked!

1- Strong password:
If your password is your girlfriend’s name, your
own phone number, or “password”, 123456789
etc then your account is easiest to be hacked!
These are the worst passwords to be used
because anyone can guess them very easily.
Rather, your password combination should be
very strong. Make your password atleast 20
characters long containing small letter, capital
letter, special character and numbers. Plus, use
the words combination that no one can ever
guess! And the most important, DO NOT write
your password anywhere except your own
mind. An example of such password is
“asXychangeSirName@2332″

2- Use HTTPS protocol:
Using HTTPS protocol makes your data transfer
across the web secure. You can activate it by
going to account settings-> account security->
change and check mark “browse facebook on a
secure connection https” and click OK. So now all
the data transfer between you and facebook will
be in encrypted form.

3- Security question:
Often, while signing up on facebook, people
select the simple security questions like “where
was your mother born”. Is it really too secure, I
guess NO. There would be many in your friend-
list who knows the answer to this question. So
choose a more difficult question and answer in
a way that no one other than you can guess.

4- Email ID-
It is sometimes useful for people to make their
email ID visible on their profile as there may be
someone who wants to contact via mail, but at
times, people can take your email id as the
weapon against you if they can enter into your
email ID by guessing your password. Once they
know your email ID and have access to it, they
can reset your facebook account’s password
just in seconds! I would suggest you to use that
ID, for creating facebook account, that is not
known to many(or even to anyone).

5- Use ON-SCREEN keyboard:
At times you have to use facebook on your
friend’s computer or in the cyber café. At times,
they have installed the keylogger in their
computer which records all the keys you have
pressed. So, to avoid such situation, you should
always use on screen keyboard and keyloggers
can never record the keys pressed using the
virtual keyboard. To know more about
keyloggers, read our article here.

6- Use private browsing:
This is especially useful when you are using
facebook on your own laptop. Not using private
browsing lets the computer save cookies and
other data in the memory and can be used by
experts to hack your details.

7- Enable login notification:
Login notification lets you know whenever
someone(you as well as anyone else) logs in
into your account. If someone gets access to
your account, you will get notification soon and
you can easily reset the password before it’s
too late. To enable login notification : go to
home-> account settings-> security-> login
notification and check the option and save.

8- Check the URL:
There are many smart fellows who design the
page just like facebook and if you will simply
enter your credentials (email id and password)
you are then giving it directly to the hacker!! So
before entering the details, better check the
URL address whether it really is an official link
or a link pretending to be the original one.

9- Don’t click every link you see:
For the last few years, there has been a huge
rise in the number of malicious links which
when clicked, can spread the link to all your
facebook friends on your behalf and can even
steal your password! So NEVER click any link
which says “OMG, I can’t believe this”, “You
can’t watch this video” or any other link which
is urging you to click it.

10-  Phone-a big hacking weapon:
If you have registered your phone number in
your facebook account, anyone who has
physical access to your phone can hack your
account by simply sending the reset code to
your phone. Specially if you live with so many
people around you, you are more likely to be
hacked by this method. So stay safe by not
allowing others to gain access to your phone,
Keep your applications and especially message
box locked.
Hope these simple ways can keep your
facebook account safe. Now you all know how
to prevent facebook account from being
hacked. Let us know if you have any query.
Happy surfing!!
