Why your children should avoid Davido’s video “Fans Mi”

Have you watched popstar, David Adeleke aka Davido’s latest video, ‘Fans Mi’ featuring American rapper, Meek Mill?
Then you will agree that no child under the age of 18 should see it. Even though music videos have since been reduced to nothing more than scantily-dressed ladies shaking their butts, and the glorification of drunkenness, Davido’s video pushes the boundary of decency.
From the first view, one’s eyes are assailed by lots of cash displayed on a table with several types of guns.   As if that is not bad enough, nearly naked girls are spotted dancing raunchily in almost every scene of the video.
The story-line of the video is worse. Davido tries to seal a deal with a drug dealer to supply cocaine while the dealer hands him cases of dollars for the transaction. Davido then goes back to his mansion where he can be seen aided by the brassieres-and-panties flaunting ladies preparing the cocaine. It is not until the end of the video that we get to see that the cocaine Davido delivered to the drug dealer was only semovita (a local Nigerian food).
We must ask though: what is he trying to teach his fans who are largely made up of impressionable youths? That it is okay to engage in the sale of illicit drugs to make money? Or that guns are now suddenly ‘cool’ toys to have

Pandemonium as man, 44, dies during deliverance in Benin

BENIN CITY—THERE was pandemonium  Monday at Uselu quarters in Benin City as a 44 year-old man, identified as Osayande Ekhator, reportedly died during a deliverance in one of the new generation churches, Hope Ministries, also known as Holy Ghost Deliverance Centre. Vanguard gathered that the death of the man angered the youths in the area who stormed the church with dangerous weapons, destroying its properties, including musical instruments, electrical appliances and vehicles parked in the premises.
Father laments
The father of the deceased, Pa Erase Ekhator, lamented that the deceased visited him the previous day to inform him he was attending a deliverance in the church, that he quickly obliged him the request. He said confusion, however, enveloped the deliverance when he heard the deceased crying out for help.
“They forced him and tied both his legs and hands, carried a bucket full of water and poured it on his body. The mother asked why and they said that it is what they usually do to calm him down after struggling for five minutes, only for Osanyade to die in the church,’’ the deceased father said in anguish.
Sister of the deceased, Mrs Omoregie Osas, who suspected foul play in the death of his late brother, alleged that  they beat him to death because the cloth he was putting on was pulled off and they wore him another one.” But reacting to the allegation, the resident Pastor of the Church, Mrs Isoken Okudaye, and a church member who claimed he witnessed what happened, said the victim who they claimed was violent during the deliverance, accidentally hit his head on a nearby generating set and died.
Pastor Okudaye said:   “We have been taking care of his father without any money; we don’t kill, beat or destroy souls here.  If they bring people with insanity here, we heal them.”
An eyewitness told newsmen:  “When we heard that somebody died there, we all ran to the church to know what happened, but some angry youths started destroying the altar and everything in the church. We had to escape from the scene so that we won’t be attacked.”
Reacting to the development,  Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Steve Onwunchie, who confirmed the incident, said the police had commenced investigation into the matter, adding that the findings would be made public at the appropriate time.

Does Beer Truly Cause Pot Belly? Is It Just A Myth

Is it true that beer causes pot belly in men or beer drinkers in general? Is it just another myth? Well, let me tell you that beer is implicated in the development of pot belly; but can we blame beer alone for this? No, I don’t think so. Now that we know that consumption of beer contributes to a beer belly, as some would call it, let me tell you how it happens and maybe you can know how to prevent, minimize or get rid of that pot belly.

Here is how beer causes your pot belly

1. There are calories in beer and these ultimately are stored as fat. This is not peculiar to the calories in beer but any calories that you may consume from any source – including foods. It is however so sad for this guy call “Beer” that it seems to be the scape goat every time someone that has a pot belly evaluates his belly. But this is not so far from the truth because it is very easy to overtake the calories in beer. I know guys that take 8-10 bottles in one night.

If we consider the fact that a typical beer has 140-150 calories in it, downing ten in one night contributes about 1500 calories to your body. Since in a lot of men, fats are easy to store around the mid-region of the body, the belly starts protruding.

Let me just make this clear before I muddle everything up. You may have noticed that I talk about eating carbohydrate and get fat stored in your body. That’s how it works. When you take in more calories than you burn, the excess calories are stored as fat.

2. When we drink beer, we usually do not drink alone, we eat suya (which also has its own dangers), beef, chicken wings, pork, Pizza and foods that have contents with high calorific values. This act alone adds more calories to our body but we blame only beer and forget these accomplices.

3. Alcohol increases appetite for food, so when we spend long hours taking beer and gisting with friends, we tend to take more of whatever we are eating. This contributes more to our calorie intake. They all end up as fat in our body.

4. Finally, it has been established that “In general, alcohol intake is associated with bigger waists, because when you drink alcohol, the liver burns alcohol instead of fat.” This is according to Michael Jensen, MD, an endocrine expert and obesity researcher with the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn.

You may be wondering that there are beer drinkers that do not have pot bellies. Yes, there are so many of them that I know too. This is because  The part of your body where this fat is stored is dependent on several factors such as age, sex, and hormones. As we get older, our metabolic activities may drop which in turn affect how much we burn the calories that we take in.

Pot belly is linked to a variety of health problems such as type II diabetes, high blood pressure and cardiovascular disease. Therefore, we have to find a way to prevent or get rid of pot belly (if we already have it).

5 Foods That Help Fight & Reduce Belly Fat

There are many reasons why you accumulate fats in the belly and I am going to discuss some while mentioning others in the process too.

You are definitely not being kind to your body if you can’t go a day without downing a bottle of carbonated drink. All these sugars ultimately get converted into fat in your body and depending on your sex, age and rate of metabolic activities, the fats might end up being stored in your tummy.

Eating late at night is also a bad habit that contributes to belly fat. Our body naturally breaks down the food we eat but this rate reduces when we go straight to bed after eating. We do not expend the energy we have, so the body does not try to break down the food to supply more energy. The best practice is to eat not later than 6pm in the evening and make sure we do not go to bed immediately after. When we go to bed on a full stomach, it also increases our risk of developing acid reflux and indigestion, since gravity is no longer able to pull everything in our belly straight down.

If you deprive yourself of fats because you think it contributes to accumulation of fat in your body, you are wrong. There are very good and beneficial fats that help the body. The irony of it is that foods such as avocados, olive oil and seeds work well in eliminating belly fat for you.

Endeavour to get enough sleep everyday, adults should get about seven to nine hours of sleep each day. When we refuse to get enough sleep, the level of cortisol (stress hormone) in our body increases and causes the craving for sugary foods. We consume these sugary foods and add more calories to the body. Overeating, depriving our body of protein-rich foods and genetics also have their roles in how we process and store fat in the body.

Healthy eating and living in general will helps us reduce fats in our body but there are also foods that we can include in our diet to reduce belly fat. They help fight and reduce the fat in our tummy.

1. Berries help to fight fat in the belly

Flavonoids are present in high quantities in berries, particularly in red, blue and purple berries. The darker and riper berries are, the more they tend to have higher flavonoid value. These flavonoids can help suppress abdominal fat accumulation. A particular study carried out on experimental animals showed that Licorice flavonoids can suppress abdominal fat accumulation and increase in blood glucose level in obese diabetic.

Example of berries include blueberries, cranberries, blackberries and black grapes. There are also the raspberries, cherries and red grapes which may be high in anthocyanidins and cyanidin.

We must note that processing of these fruits into fruits can lead to the loss of flavonoids. Therefore, it is advisable to eat them fresh in order maximise the flavonoids content.

Add these fruits to your diet while watching the type of other foods that you take and sleep pattern, you should see a drop in your belly fat.

2. Nuts and Beans against belly fat

Flavonoids are a quite remarkable group of phytonutrients that fall into the chemical category of polyphenols. They’re perhaps most famous for their rich diversity of color-providing pigments (including the deep blues of blueberries and rich reds of raspberries).

Are nuts and beans also rich in flavonoids? Yes, they are! Some nuts and beans such as Soy beans are high in protein and also high in flavonoids. Darks beans such as kidney beans and black beans tend to be higher in flavonoids from the anthycyanidins group.

Nuts such as walnuts and pecans are high in anthocyanidins while pistachios and cashews are high in the flavonols catechins. Flavonoids, apart from helping in fighting belly fats, have also been found to have the ability to block the production of messaging molecules that promote inflammation.

3. Green and Red Vegetables

Most vegetables contain quantities of flavonoids, particularly green and red vegetables. Peppers, tomatoes and eggplants are high in the flavonols, quercetin and the flavones luteolin. Onions, most especially the red onions and green onions, are also high in quercetin. Celery, artichokes, snap beans, broccoli and okra also contain flavonoids.

These flavonoids help boost our rate of metabolism such that we burn fat faster and better. Flavonoids and phytonutrients found in nuts as well as citrus, berries, red onions, beans, green tea, grapes, and cocoa boost our metabolism enough to significantly reduce our belly fat.

Including these foods in our diet will not only be beneficial nutritionally to the body, but also help trim down that large waistline that we hate seeing in the mirror.

So, if you are really serious about reducing your belly fat and you don’t want to feel bad about  your tummy the next time you have to tuck in your shirt, then make use of the content of this article. Keep your exercises going too and you are sure to see changes.

4. Pears can Keep your middle trim

Fresh pears are low in calories and high in fiber. The calories are so low you could eat one before every meal and still lose weight while the fiber also helps your digestion. But even better, pears are loaded with catechins and flavonols. These two antioxidants appeared to reduce the storage of belly fat in a 14-year study.

A research has also recommended how to eat pears to make the best out of it; eat a pear before a meal to help curb hunger. This will prevent you from eating too much food as you are less hungry after eating the pear; you need to consistently consume fewer calories than you burn to lose weight.

Ditch the peeler, though; most of the fruit’s beneficial fiber is in the skin.

5. Watermelon and Belly Fat

The University of Kentucky did a study in which they found that watermelon lowers a person’s risk of the development of belly fat and alters blood lipids which in turn affects artery plaque deposition. The study found that subjects didn’t experience any decrease in their muscle mass and their weight loss happened through the loss of abdominal fat. Watermelon contains 91 percent water and when you eat it at the beginning of a meal, it fills you up without adding a substantial amount of calories to your meal.

Watermelon keeps you feeling full longer and also helps combat water retention. This juicy fruit is also rich in vitamins B1, B6 and C, as well as potassium and magnesium.

Note that all the fruits mentioned in this posts are not miracle foods that will just burn off all he fat in your belly. Burning belly fat is all about consuming less fat than you burn everyday. This, coupled with the consumption of fruits that help you retard fat accumulation in your tummy, will make that fat belly go down.

How To Cook Beans So You Don’t Fart After Eating

Let me first of all make something clear before I start discussing about the topic of this post. We all call the common bean (Vigna unguiculata) that we eat beans, beans – but beans is a is a common name for large plant seeds of several genera of the family Fabaceae (alternately Leguminosae) which are used for human or animal food. The common one that we eat is called Cowpea. It has a number of common name such as crowder pea, blackeyed pea, southern pea.

Beans generally are rich in protein, while many of them are high in fiber and antioxidants. Beans are good for reduction of our waistline as well aid in disease prevention. Despite all these benefits, which many people are aware of, a lot people want to stay clear of Cowpea because they start farting or passing out gases after eating it. This does not have to be so because there are ways that you can cook your beans, such that you won’t have to be clearing the room hours after.

Before I talk about the methods that you can use to cook beans to prevent farting after, let me explain in clear and concise terms what causes this flatulence. Beans contain a class of carbohydrates called Oligosaccharides (e.g. raffinose and stachyose), some of which cannot be processed by our digestive system.

When we eat beans and they get to our intestine, the Oligosaccharides remain there as we do not have the enzymes or any other thing whatsoever to digest the. After the Oligosaccharides pass into our large intestine, the bacteria present there start to break them down. During the process, the bacteria release several different types of gases, mainly hydrogen, nitrogen and carbon dioxide. About 33% of these bacteria also end up producing methane and this is the one that smells.

between beans and Cowpea, I am going to be using the word beans for the rest of this article. This is because what I am about to write about is applicable to all beans and not just Cowpea.

1. Soaking your Beans in Water

Scientists and even chefs have recommended soaking your beans in water for hours before cooking will remove most of these Oligosaccharides before you cook the. Many people said this works but I don’t think many people have the time to soak beans before cooking. When I tried this with Cowpea myself, the taste of the cooked beans was just different — maybe the beans was starting to ferment in the water.

2. Adding Mould to the Beans

The reason why we have problems digesting beans is that we lack the alpha-galactosidase enzyme in our digestive tract. There is this mould called Aspergillus niger that contains the Alpha-Galactosidase enzyme I talked about. After sprinkling this on your food, it works by breaking down Oligosaccharides and preventing your large intestinal bacteria from creating gases. It is now being sold as a product and people that use it said they usually by from Amazon under the brand name Beano

3. Soaking Beans with Baking Soda

This baking soda has many uses that I am going to write about soon. One of them is what it does to help reduce or eliminate flatulence after eating beans. Adding baking soda to the soak water of dried beans before cooking (about 1/16 teaspoon per quart) significantly decreases the content of the raffinose and other Oligosaccharide family members.

4. Changing the boil water

I have used this with great success since 2009. What I usually do is to cook my beans in a lot of water for about 15 minutes, then throw away the water and add fresh boiling water. In this first boiling, do not add any ingredients yet. I have no scientific backing for this but I believe most of these saccharides must have been removed by the first boiling.

You should please give this a shot and let us know if you have any success with it. I’ll be glad to hear back from you.

Unmetered Electricity Consumers May Stop Paying Tariff

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has disclosed plans to stop electricity distribution companies (DISCOs) from collecting tariff from unmetered customers within their networks after a 16-month grace period.
The commission, which stated this at a media briefing in Abuja, yesterday, explained that the measure is aimed at enforcing widespread metering in view of DISCOs’ reluctance to carry out aggressive metering of customers in preference for estimated billing.
The NERC chairman, Dr Sam Amadi, who briefed the media, said that it was unacceptable that over 50 per cent of registered electricity consumers in the country are either unmetered or have non-functional meters despite measures over time put in place by the commission to encourage metering.
Amadi said this new proposal will follow the NERC’s recent decision to cap the maximum charges that a DISCO can levy on its unmetered customers within its approved estimated billing methodology. However, he said, the new proposal will be subjected to reviews by industry operators after which a 16-month grace period will be granted to the DISCOs to exercise their full metering plans or lose revenues from consumers who they fail to meter within the period.
While noting that the measure was not aimed at hurting stakeholders in the sector, he said, “There are three-prong approaches to this. One is that there is a moratorium between now and the next four months for the capping of estimated revenue to start. The capping means that within four months you must have metered all your Credit Advance Programme for Metering Implementation (CAPMI) customers and as many of them as you can. After four months, you have an extra 12 months within which to meter all customers who are in your network.
“After the 12 months and four months, which is 16 months, every unmetered customer will no longer pay electricity bills until they are metered,” Amadi stated
