Delta: Police Arrest 117 Suspected Cultists, Grandma, Daughter


Police detectives in Delta State yesterday
raided flash points of suspected cultists in
Asaba, Ozoro, Ughelli and Ogwashi-Uku and
arrested no fewer than 117 suspects.
It was gathered that the arrest of the
suspects was by a combined team of
vigilante groups in the areas, in
collaboration with the police detectives.
Investigations revealed that many of the
suspects had allegedly been involved in
robbery activities and had also killed
innocent persons during their operations.
Confirming the arrest of the suspects, police
public relations officer in the state, DSP
Celestina Kalu, said the Police recovered a
Toyota Hiace bus, dried weeds suspected to
be Indian hemp, white candles and 23 axes.
She added that the Police are on the trail of
the fleeing suspects.
Meanwhile, the police in Ogwashi-Uku near
Asaba have rescued a grandma and her
daughter from a kidnappers’ den. They were
abducted from the community last
Wednesday.
Reports said that the victims were taken
away by unidentified gun men to an
unknown destination before rescue came
their way when the Police acted on a tip-off
and stormed their base.
It was gathered that the grandmother,
Madam Roseline Egbarah, abducted
alongside with her daughter, was released
by her abductors while the daughter was
held back but the grandma insisted she will
not leave till help later came their way.
In a related development, the Police have
also rescued a 55-year-old Ifeanyi Okoye
from the hands of his abductors in
Oruwonrum, Udu local government area of
the state.
According to the Police image maker, DSP
Celestina Kalu, the Police operatives acted
quickly when they received information that
the kidnap suspects were in a thick forest in
the area.
